ARCHITECT
KELLY CLARK BSc BArch RIBA
I live in Cheddar and grew up in Axbridge before studying Architecture at Cardiff University. I have a family and apart from work I enjoy watching and participating in Sport. I play hockey for Winscombe and also coach hockey to our junior section of the club.
I qualified as an architect in 2003 and at that time worked for a large practice in Clifton, Bristol.
After gaining valuable experience in a larger corporate environment, I decided I would like to specialise in domestic scale projects closer to home and set up business with my father, a long established local builder.
I enjoy helping people achieve their dream home either from ‘Scratch’ or more often in a conversion/alteration/extension to an existing building.
Often, I find that people like where they live but are looking for ways to make their house work better for them as a family.
I enjoy blending old and new, helping clients to modernise and personalise their homes.
Given the locality, I am used to working within historic locations within Conservation areas and also with Listed Buildings.
On a practical note, being based in Cheddar, I get to work with several Local Planning Authorities, Sedgemoor, Mendip and North Somerset. I have experience of Local Planning Policy and have a very good success rate of gaining planning permission for clients.
With regards to Building Control applications I work with Somerset Building Control within a Partnership agreement, which results in fast approval times and a consistent link with a knowledgeable and helpful Building Control Officer.
Being linked with a building contracting company I have a realistic approach and can work to and advise on budgets. As a company we can always provide a quote for the works once a full set of technical drawings have been drawn up, if required.
Being just me, timescales may be longer than other architect practices where projects are given out to individuals within a practice after meeting and dealing with a director. I find that being the one person who you would deal with, helps to ensure that your requirements and design preferences are clearly understood, limiting redesign / misunderstanding issues.
I don’t charge for an initial half hour meeting at your home/project and would welcome the opportunity to come along and discuss your exciting project and provide you with advice on planning issues and costings for planning applications (if required) and building Control applications. At these meetings it’s often a great way to start to build a relationship between client and architect and get a feel for the type of design / risk / wish list that you may have.

We were looking to convert our detached garage into a lounge and build a link extension from the main house. Kelly listened carefully to what we wanted and made helpful suggestions about how to achieve this. The plans were drawn up and we were delighted with both the proposed layout and the external appearance which blended well into the stone built garage and main house. We are fortunate that the house faces Southwest and Kelly had made full use of this to make the extension light and airy.
